Despite the heat, the summer is still a popular time of year to visit Atlanta, as its very wide range of attractions and things to do means that there is always something suitable for the weather.

Outdoor activities are still possible in July, provided you come equipped with sunscreen and an ample supply of water. Hiking and more active sightseeing, nonetheless, are best reserved for the cooler mornings. Park in the shade where possible!

During the hotter parts of the day (or during one of the area’s frequent afternoon rain showers or thunderstorms), Atlanta offers an enormous selection of air-conditioned indoor attractions, from shopping and art galleries or dining to museums of local or national significance, art museums, one of the biggest aquariums in the world, and more. It is often a good idea to bring a light sweater or similar extra layer, for when the air conditioning is set too cold.

Atlanta is not often affected severely by hurricanes during the June to November hurricane season, due to its position inland, but heavy rain, high winds and tropical storm conditions are possible throughout this period.
